Making sense of mental health

Making sense of mental health.

Why Mental Health is important and should be focused on?

Mental health is something that affects all of us, but it’s not something we talk about often. In the United States, mental health is a top priority—and rightfully so.

In 2016, the National Institute of Mental Health (NIMH) released the report “Mental Health in America: A Report of the Surgeon General.” The report found that one in five adults in the U.S. experience a mental health disorder in a given year. This is a significant increase from previous reports, which found that only one in twenty adults experienced a mental health disorder in a given year.

The report also found that mental health disorders are highly disabling. The report found that people with a mental health disorder experience a wide range of negative outcomes, including increased rates of unemployment, poverty, and homelessness. In addition, people with a mental health disorder are more likely to abuse drugs and alcohol, engage in criminal activity, and commit suicide.

Measures to take when you are facing Mental Health Problems.

Though mental health is a topic that commonly tends to be stigmatized, many benefits can be derived from a lifestyle that includes good mental health. Addressing problems earlier in life will help prevent mental health conditions from growing worse and possibly limit the impact they have on the sufferer’s life. If you are concerned about your own or someone else’s mental health, the first step is to talk with a professional.
